Elder David S Baxter

During our time in the beautiful BYU 58th YSA ward, Derek and I had the privilege to be taught for 2 hours during Sunday School, and a combine Priesthood, and Relief Society meeting by David S Baxter of the first Quorum of the Seventy. How did we come upon such an amazing opportunity? he was home in Utah having surgery, and our AMAZING Bishop, Bishop Nyman, had baptized his family in Scotland while he was serving his mission there back in the day. So you could say the two of them are pretty tight.

After meeting with us, Elder Baxter and his wife were going to be driving down to Cedar City, and it was my duty as the Relief Society Secretary to pack him and his wife a brown bagged lunch for them to eat on their drive. To my amazement, he wrote me a thank you note for that lunch a few weeks later, which I will promptly try to find after writing this post.

When Derek and I moved just a couple weeks ago, we moved out of our Durham First Ward, ward boundaries and into the Morrisville Ward. Putting us out of the Durham Stake, and into the Apex Stake. After moving into the ward, we got an e-mail talking about the releasing of the current stake presidency, and the rearranging that was going to take place November 9th. To my utter and complete surprise, Elder Baxter is going to be the one conducting this process within our stake and who will be presiding at our Stake conference 2 weeks from now. (Cue the goosebumps right now as I'm writing this!)

The stake is going to be broadcasting the meeting in all the buildings in our stake that day, but Derek said that we could leave the house an hour and a half early and try to get good seats so we can actually see it in the stake center. I have hopes that just maybe Elder Baxter will remember the two of us, and think we're pretty cool for getting married and moving across the country and being in this very stake right now. But chances are that I'll think he is way cooler than we'll ever be!

When asking for a picture with him I said, "can I get a picture with you to put in my 2nd year of being a Mormon scrap book?", I'm almost certain he'll remember that. I just wish my only picture wasn't blurry.

  2. He is my favourite ever! I am also Scottish ;D (from near where he was raised- the same stake) I was fortunate to attend a young adult fireside in England where he was the guest speaker and his testimony struck me like no one else's ever had before. I was like 'this is a man of God! This what a disciple of God looks and sounds like!'
