DIY Taco Seasoning

Last week when the big snow storm here in NC struck we were stuck at home for a couple days and couldn't make it to the store. I like when this happens because it challenges me to use all pantry ingredients to make a good dinner for the family. We decided a taco night was in order but we didn't have any taco seasoning packets. I then discovered that my well stocked spice cabinet probably could provide me with all the ingredients to make my own. I Googled a recipe and was pleasantly surprised when I had all the ingredients on hand to make one delicious seasoning.

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp black pepper

Directions:
Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container. To use, mix desired amount into 1 pound ground beef. I used about 3/4 of the mixture for one pound, but how much you use entirely depends on your family's taste.

  2. I've been trying to come up with my own spice combinations instead of just buying the seasoning packet at the store. I'll definitely be trying this!!

  3. I will definitely use this when I run out of taco seasoning! I hope you don't mind, but I linked this recipe of yours to one I just posted for anyone who doesn't have taco seasoning on hand when making my recipe:
