Living Room Progress Reveal

When we first moved into this house in March, I had originally wanted the upstairs living room to be more of a formal living room and then have the large room down in the basement as a playroom. After living here for a couple weeks though I realized that since the TV was down in the bonus room Kyle was asking to watch shows all day long, and the room was super dark and I was convinced that a spider was going to eat us, so we decided to have the upstairs living room double as the playroom and living room.

This was a tough decision to make because I wanted a room that would be comfortable and relaxing for adults, but functional for the kids and our actual lives as well. Getting all the furniture and everything for this room setup has been a super slow process. We already had couches so that wasn't a big deal, but we needed to buy a rug so the kids could have something soft to play on. It took me over a month to find a rug that we liked, and didn't cost a million dollars. It took us an additional 3 weeks to find some curtains for our massive front window that also were budget friendly, but could prevent our neighbors from seeing every detail of our lives after 8pm.

Then there was the huge shelving unit. I wanted to get one of these from Ikea when we lived in North Carolina, but I never wanted to pay the huge shipping fee, or drive the 3 hours to Charlotte and pick one up. When Ikea finally became a 20 minute drive from our house, and there was a recall on Jay's crib mattress that we had to bring back anyways... we figured it was the perfect time to go ahead and pull the plug on it. I love that we can have cute decor pieces up top, but still store our books and have all the toys tucked away in the baskets underneath.

There are still things we need to do to the room, like hang some more family pictures, and put a piece of furniture of some sort in the big empty space between the two couches, but I thought I'd give you a peek at how it's coming along.

  10. I love the color of your couches, such a rich color! I find that with having kids (or, a kid, in my case) we rarely use the lower level because it's just so much easier to stay on the main level. I finally got a storage ottoman to help store the toys. Love your toy storage solution!
