Jay Turned Three

Last Friday Jay turned three. It's a surreal moment to have a three-year-old. He's at this stage where we can have real conversations. He has likes, dislikes, opinions. He's developed a witty sense of humor for a three-year-old and keeps Derek and I laughing constantly. His birthday was a quiet celebration at home where we opened presents and ate cake. Afterwards we took him to the Georgia Aquarium and then out to dinner and it was the perfect day.

Jay loves giving kisses and hugs to everyone in the house. He finally loves his sister which is so great. He was so off and on about her this past year, but the last few months he's come to really adore her. Every morning I get Jay out of his crib first (yes my three-year-old sleeps in a crib and it's amazing), and then we go and find Em. This morning he sat on my lap and looked at her in her crib and said, "she's so beautiful!" My heart almost burst right then and there.

I'm so grateful for all the things that I've been able to learn as a parent over the last few years. I often feel guilty that Jay had to be the guinea pig child with my parenting skills, but he just rolls with it and is pretty mellow for the most part. To the boy who made me a mom, happy birthday!

  4. My son is also 3, and one thing that I noticed is that he is more aware of other people. He has become very shy to play with other kids. But once he warms up to them, then he seems to do well. I'm trying to teach him to be more bold, but I think he's just going to be this way. Your son looks like he's a good boy.
