Friday's Five

It's been a long time since I've done a Friday's Five here on the blog, but I'm thinking about recommitting myself to making it a weekly thing again. I love the opportunity it gives me to look for the good in the week instead of thinking on all the things that went wrong, or the things that were particularly hard. So here's to looking for the good, and recording some more family memories.

Truck Picnics: Last weekend we spent a few hours at the pool and then found ourselves not wanting to make dinner. We decided to throw the kids into Derek's truck at the last minute before bedtime and head over to Little Ceaser's to get a pizza. We pulled over on the side of the road and had a picnic in the back of Derek's new truck. It was such a fun and simple thing to do, but the kids really loved it and I know we'll be creating lots and lots of family memories in that truck this summer.

Mormon Trek: I plan on doing a full post about this next week, but I got to attend Mormon Trek with our stake for a day last week and it was amazing. Talk about the spiritual recharge that I needed. Me and a friend of mine got to talk with the lady who owned the land that the trek was happening on, and we got to teach her about the sacrifice and trials that the pioneers faced along the way. It was such a great teaching moment, and if you're wondering whether or not I found myself crying about the pioneers to a complete stranger, the answer would be yes.

Pool Parties: We've been going to the pool a lot lately now that we know how much Em loves being in there with a pool float. We went once during the week with friends, and then again today for a few more hours, and I've decided it's my favorite way to spend a summer afternoon. The kids love it, and I love being outside, unplugged from technology.

Haircuts: I've taken on the sole responsibility of cutting Jay's hair over the last few years, but the kid's hair grows so fast, it's almost impossible to keep up with it. Every four weeks he's ready for a cut again. Tonight I just shaved it all off and told him he could have his hair back when school started in attempt to keep things simple and easy this summer.

Sitting: Em has been getting so brave lately and I walk in the room constantly to find her sitting and moving all over the room. She is getting so much stronger at propping herself up and I love it. There was a time when we thought she would literally never sit unsupported, so whenever I walk into a room and see that she got herself there all on her own, it's one of my very favorite things.

I want to know what made your week special! Let me know in the comments below!

  2. Em's swimsuit is so adorable- I wish they made stuff like that for adults! I have never done a trek and have always been kind of embarrassed about them. Huge props to you for being able to do it AND talk about it as a missionary opportunity.
