5 Ways To Get Ready For A Spring Break Road Trip

Spring break is upon us, and while we had our spring break road trip last weekend to Idaho, lots of people are gearing up for some adventure this week, or in the weeks to come. We typically find that traveling by car is the most cost effective option for our family, which means over the last several years we've put lots of miles on our cars driving to North Carolina, Georgia, New York, Idaho and Utah. We've got traveling by car down to a science at this point, and we've learned a few tricks to help us in our preparations along the way.

Let Someone Else Change The Oil: I shared with you guys last year how I taught myself to change the oil in my car to save money, which has been such a useful skill, but when we're packing and getting ready for a big trip, it's so much easier to let someone else do it!

Before our trip to Idaho I took my car to the Walmart Auto Care Center where they gave me a full tune up, and changed my oil with Mobil 1™ Motor Oil. You can also purchase Mobil 1™ Motor Oil in stores, and now through April 30th 2018 during their Earth Day Drive Away Sweepstakes, you can enter to win a Chevy Equinox, plus $10 off your next purchase of Mobil 1™ Motor Oil from Walmart.

You can Enter to win by purchasing 5 quarts of Mobil 1™ in the store or a Mobil 1™ oil change at the Auto Care Center or by recycling any used oil at an Auto Care Center. As a bonus, shoppers that purchase 5 quarts of Mobil 1™ synthetic oil or a Mobil 1™ synthetic oil change at the Auto Care Center are also eligible to receive a $10 Select Certificate valid on a future Mobil 1™ purchase at Walmart.

Once shoppers have made a qualifying Mobil 1™ purchase or recycled any used oil at Walmart, they can enter to win the Chevy Equinox and/or receive their $10 Walmart Select Certificate at earthdaydriveaway.comLimit 2 entries in the sweepstakes per customer (1 for purchasing and 1 for recycling). Receipt required to receive $10 Walmart Select Certificate.

Clean Out The Car: I try to do this every Sunday before we get in the car to go to church anyways, but especially when I know we're going to be in the car for a long time, I don't like to add filth on top of filth. I go through and take out all the toys that have fallen into the various cracks, vacuum up the crumbs, wipe down any sticky surfaces, and then put everything we'll need back into the car.

Let The Kids Have Screens: I like to try and limit screen time as much as the next mom, but when you're piling into the car for a several hour journey? This isn't the time to see how much your kids love each other. I keep the DVD players out of the car more often than not, but if I know we're going to be in the car for longer than two hours, I have zero reservations about putting them in.

Do Spring Cleaning Before You Leave: I hate coming home to a messy house, but Especially in the Spring if I know we're going somewhere, I like to clean out the entire house from top to bottom, and then bring all our boxes and things things taking up space in the garage, out to the recycling center before we leave so that when we get home, it's like a fresh new space that doesn't stress me out. This is also a great time to go through your garage and recycle any of your old motor oil at a local Walmart Auto Care Center.

Have Bags and Baskets in the Car to Contain Messes: If you're going on a road trip with kids, it's a given that your car is going to get trashed to a degree, but I still like to try and contain the messes as best as possible. I like to keep a small square basket in between the kid's carseats to contain their toys, and whatever else they brought to keep themselves busy. I also like to keep a grocery bag hanging onto the gear shifter so that there is easy access to it at all times to contain wrappers, old food, or anything else that is just waiting to wreak havoc on my car.

These are all my best tips for preparing for a spring break road trip! I'd love to know how you get ready in the comments below! Also, don't forget to stop into a Walmart Auto Care Center to get your Oil Changed, or shop in stores for your own Mobil 1™ motor oil, and enter to win the Earth Day Drive Away Sweepstakes!

I am always impressed with a nice message.
In this season, Japan is stained with cherry color.
It is a very favorite season for Japanese people.
Sakura in Washington DC is also a present from Japan.
I am enjoying 70 kilometers on a road bike in cherry blossoms.
