Friday's Five - 2019: Fri, Aug 23

Friday's Five used to be a very regular part of my blog, but then I stopped blogging five days a week, the kids were in school, I was in school, and it felt like the only posts on this blog were sponsored ones for a good long while. Luckily since I've been out of school, I've been able to blog five days a week for the last month, and it's been really great. I love being here, and sharing all the random things, and it feels so good to have time to be writing about all the things that come to me, and not just things that are being sponsored. So here we are, reinstating the Friday's Five post, and sharing five great moments from this week.

1. Kyle started second grade this week. Originally the French Immersion program we wanted to get him into was full, so he started the first day in a normal second grade class. Then we got a call after the first day saying that he could enroll in the program and has been doing that ever since. The first day was awful, and the day after was only a little less awful. He's two years behind everyone else in the program who has been learning French since Kindergarten. It's going to take him some time to catch up, but we're confident with Derek being a fluent French speaker, and using some online resources at home, that we should be able to get him caught up in the next few months.

2. The townhouse that we're renting came with a mandatory cable package, which means I've been able to stream endless episodes of Escaping Polygamy on Lifetime. (For the record members of tThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints don't practice polygamy). Polygamy shows are such a guilty pleasure for me. I know I shouldn't watch them, but the entire thing is so bizarre that I can't look away. I watched the first season of this a few years ago, and got caught up on seasons 2 and 3 this week.

3. Yesterday was my birthday! I'm officially 28! I know a lot of people don't want to get older, and turning 30 is apparently a big deal, but I'm here for it. I'm looking forward to being the mom with crepey looking skin, blonde hair, some good eyeliner, and a sweet baseball hat cheering on my kids on the soccer field. I feel like I'm actually going to peak in life around 40.

4. Kinsley got sick yesterday with a huge head cold. We're crossing our fingers that she's better for her first day of Kindergarten on Monday. Right now we're living our best life with lots of smoothies, orange juice, cough syrup, and essential oils trying to beat this thing out of her.

5. The last quarter mile of my run was downhill today, so I just decided to send it and see what I could do. I did the last quarter mile at 5:40 pace, and got a new 400m PR on Strava. Still haven't registered for my next 5k race, but hopefully I'll make a final decision in the next couple days, since I'm planning on going for the PR again on the 31st.
