Gourmet Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Cranberry sauce is a great side dish to throw in the crock pot on Thanksgiving morning. This gourmet cranberry sauce tastes amazing and will be the perfect side this holiday season.

As it turns out, I'm not a huge snob when it comes to cranberry sauce. I like homemade just as much as I like the jellied version in a can. They both have room in my life, and I'm not afraid to admit that. When we made Thanksgiving dinner in 2013, we made this gourmet cranberry sauce recipe in the slow cooker though, and it was amazing. It is the perfect set it and forget it side for Thanksgiving dinner that you can put together with little effort.

Can you make Cranberry Sauce ahead of time?

Yes, in fact I would recommend it! I personally think cranberry sauce tastes better when served cold instead of hot. You can make this cranberry sauce 1-2 days before Thanksgiving and then store it in the fridge until you're ready to serve!

Teepee Dirt Cups| Cute Thanksgiving Treats

Teepee dirt cups are the perfect quick and easy cute Thanksgiving treat to make with kids this fall season. All you need is some pudding, cookie crumbs, and ice cream cones to make these festive treat.

In keeping with the theme of all things Thanksgiving this week, I'm back with another cute Thanksgiving treat idea. These Teepee dirt cups would be a great activity to make with your children before Thanksgiving where you can teach your kids the true meaning behind Thanksgiving, how the Native Americans lived, and what their lives really looked like. I recommend accompanying this treat with one of the historically accurate books on my Thanksgiving book list.

Teepee Dirt Cups

These teepee dirt cups are a fun activity to share with kids during this late fall season. Kids will love helping to stir the instant pudding together, crushing the cookie crumbs, and dipping the ice cream cones into the sprinkles. It's a super easy, fun, and hands on activity for kids during Thanksgiving.

What You Need to Make Teepee Dirt Cups

To make these teepee dirt cups you will need chocolate chips, orange sprinkles, waffle ice cream cones, instant chocolate pudding, and and Oreo crumbs. You will also need some small see through plastic cups. You could also buy already made pudding in individual snack packs which would save you the step of making pudding and having to purchase additional cups.

How to Make Teepee Dirt Cups

To make these teepee dirt cups you're going to start by melting your chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between each one to make sure your chocolate doesn't burn. Repeat this until your chocolate is melted all the way through and smooth.

When your chocolate is melted you're going to dip the top and bottom of your waffle cone into the melted chocolate, and then into your orange sprinkles. Set your cones aside on some wax paper until the chocolate has set.

While you're waiting for your chocolate to set, put some Oreos in a bag and smash them with a rolling pin to create crumbs, or the "dirt" for these cups! You can also prepare your pudding at this time. my box required that we mix the powder with milk and stir, and then wait five minutes for it to set all the way. It was super fast and easy.

Once your ingredients are prepared you can now layer your pudding cups. Take a clear plastic cup and pour about 1/2 cup of pudding into each of your cups. Then you'll sprinkle in some of your Oreo crumbs for the dirt, and place your waffle cone on top, with the pointed side facing up towards the ceiling.

Activities to Do While Eating Teepee Pudding Cups

If you're wanting to make this a full learning experience about the Native people, you could also incorporate some fun activities to accompany this snack. You could start with reading a historically accurate book about Native people, color some Thanksgiving coloring pages, and even watch a fun Thanksgiving movie!

Thanksgiving Treat Bags| Hand Turkey Treats

Thanksgiving Treat Bags are the perfect dessert to have for young children at Thanksgiving. These Thanksgiving treat bags made with popcorn and M&Ms will be the perfect addition to your holiday.

In the spirit of making Thanksgiving a fun holiday for kids who don't love all the Thanksgiving things, these Thanksgiving treat bags in the shape of hand turkeys would be the perfect addition to your holidays plans. I love that these treat bags take very minimal effort (although sorting M&Ms is like watching paint dry), and you can even get your kids to join in on the fun!

Hand Turkey Thanksgiving Treat Bags:

These Thanksgiving treat bags come together with very few supplies. Simply get some m&ms, plastic gloves, popcorn, an elastic hair tie, and you can put these bags together in just a few minutes. Even better if you have small children who want to be involved in the dinner making process, set them up at the table to make some of these while they wait for other guests to arrive. They'll love being big helpers, and there really is little room for error with this project.

Best Plastic Gloves for Treat Bags:

For these Thanksgiving treat bags you're going to want to use clear plastic, non-latex, non-powdered gloves. I bought these at Walmart and got about 120 for under $2. However, I bought adult size gloves and quickly realized that used up a lot of M&Ms. I would recommend finding some child size plastic gloves.

Candy Variations for Thanksgiving Treat Bags:

I used M&Ms for my Thanksgiving treat bags, but you could totally switch this up with a lot of different things. Reese's pieces would be a great option since they're already fall colors. You could also use candy corn, Sixlets, Skittles, plain chocolate chips, the sky is really the limit!

How to Make Hand Turkey Thanksgiving Treat Bags:

To make these treat bags you're simply going to sort out all your M&Ms by color, and then put each color into one of the fingers of your plastic bag. Once your fingers are filled, put your popcorn into the middle section, and then tie it off with a small hair elastic. If you don't have hair elastics you could simply tie a small knot at the bottom, but the elastics make it much easier!

If you want to take these treat bags to the next level, you could totally glue a google eye, and a small orange paper triangle onto them to make them look like a full blown turkey. Or be lazy like me and know your children will appreciate these, even without the extras.

Ingredients

  • Classic M&Ms* See note
  • Clear Plastic Bags
  • Popcorn
  • Clear Hair Elastics

Instructions

  1. Start by sorting out all of your M&Ms by color.
  2. Then place each color of M&Ms into the fingers of one of your gloves, until the finger section is filled.
  3. Repeat this for all the M&M colors and finger sections.
  4. Once the finger sections of your glove are filled, then pour the popcorn into the remaining open section of your glove.
  5. Finally, tie it off at the bottom with a small hair elastic and you're finished.
  6. Repeat this process for as many bags that you need to fill.

Notes:

One shareable size bag of M&Ms was enough to fill one adult size glove. I recommend trying to find kids sized gloves to use less M&Ms. Purchase as much M&Ms and popcorn as you think you'll need to fill your gloves!

Recipe for Shrimp Scampi

This Recipe for Shrimp Scampi is the perfect weeknight dinner. It comes together in 15 minutes and it's a meal you can count on your kids eating without complaint.

We have been making this recipe for shrimp scampi for about eight years now, making it a long time family favorite in our home. I love that it can be made in 15 minutes, and that my kids eat it with minimal complaints. There is also the benefit that anything that has shrimp in it is usually really well received. If you're in the market for a recipe for shrimp scampi, this one will quickly become a family favorite in your home too.

Recipe for Shrimp Scampi

This recipe comes together by boiling angel hair pasta in a pot on the stove. While that is boiling throw your frozen shrimp in a pan on high heat covered with the lid and let the shrimp thaw and heat all the way through. When the shrimp is an even temperature throughout, toss in all your remaining ingredients. Drain the pasta once cooked, toss with the shrimp and sauce, and you have the easiest shrimp scampi ever.

What Kind of Shrimp for Shrimp Scampi?

I personally like to use the shrimp that is frozen, precooked, peeled, and deveined. It makes weeknight cooking so much easier! You certainly can use fresh shrimp, or any shrimp you'd like, but I find the frozen, peeled, and deveined works best for our family!

Storing Leftover Shrimp Scampi

Shrimp scampi is not a dish that lasts very long after it's cooked. If sealed in an airtight container in the fridge, you could eat it up to two days later, but I wouldn't go any longer than that. You could freeze the sauce and shrimp in the freezer for several months if saved separately from the pasta.
