Moist Stuffing Recipe

This Moist Stuffing recipe is a must have on your Thanksgiving table this year! Bake in a 9x13 with chopped veggies, butter, and broth for the best stuffing you've ever had!

Back in 2013 I cooked my first Thanksgiving dinner, and this moist stuffing recipe was one of the rave dishes of the meal. I don't love the idea of cooking stuffing inside the turkey because well, that just doesn't sound appetizing to me and I have issues, so we cooked this moist stuffing recipe in a 9x13 casserole dish, but you could very well cook it inside the bird if that's your preference as well.

Moist Stuffing Recipe:

What makes this stuffing so moist is the fact that it's cooked with both broth and butter. I think that helps to keep things moist and not dried out, without leaving you with soggy stuffing as well. There is definitely a balance you're trying to achieve when cooking your stuffing, and I personally believe this stuffing is the best of the best.

What You Need for This Moist Stuffing Recipe:

For this stuffing recipe you will need one 12oz bag of seasoned bread stuffing cubes. You will also need two medium onions, celery, butter, salt, pepper, turkey stock or chicken broth, celery salt, sage, thyme, rosemary and parsley. It has the perfect blend of herby thanksgiving spices that make the holiday special.

Can you make stuffing ahead of time?

If you're baking this in a pan in the oven you could make it the day before and then reheat it, but I don't recommend doing so. I think that stuffing is best prepared the day of. Obviously if you're making your stuffing inside your bird you'll need to do that the day of as well.

What is the difference between Stuffing and Dressing?

While you can certainly use the words interchangeably, and most people do... the real difference is that stuffing is usually cooked, stuffed inside the bird, while dressing is usually referred to the same dish, but cooked in a separate dish. I guess I'm a liar and this is a dressing recipe, and not a stuffing recipe.

Gourmet Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Cranberry sauce is a great side dish to throw in the crock pot on Thanksgiving morning. This gourmet cranberry sauce tastes amazing and will be the perfect side this holiday season.

As it turns out, I'm not a huge snob when it comes to cranberry sauce. I like homemade just as much as I like the jellied version in a can. They both have room in my life, and I'm not afraid to admit that. When we made Thanksgiving dinner in 2013, we made this gourmet cranberry sauce recipe in the slow cooker though, and it was amazing. It is the perfect set it and forget it side for Thanksgiving dinner that you can put together with little effort.

Yes, in fact I would recommend it! I personally think cranberry sauce tastes better when served cold instead of hot. You can make this cranberry sauce 1-2 days before Thanksgiving and then store it in the fridge until you're ready to serve!

How to Set a Table for Thanksgiving

Setting a table for Thanksgiving doesn't have to be a complicated process, and you can get everything you need right from your local dollar store!

We've had quite a few Thanksgiving's at home by ourselves, and it's looking like we'll be doing that again this year as well. If you're wondering how to set a table for Thanksgiving, you've come to the right place! You can decorate a table for Thanksgiving with inexpensive pieces from your local Dollar Tree, without breaking the bank, and still walk away with a high end look!

How to Set A Table for Thanksgiving:

Decorating a table for Thanksgiving can be super easy! To start you're going to want to find something to use as a tablecloth. I recommend going to the craft store and getting a big piece of lace that you can use universally for all holidays as a base. Then you're going to want to get a long piece of burlap that you can use as a runner, again likely to be found at a craft store.

Next you're going to head to your local Dollar Tree where you can pick up some plates! I purchased these small white salad plates, the red plates, and the gold chargers all at Dollar Tree several years ago, and they've not only held up well, but you can still purchase the same designs this year too!

When you place these on your table you're going to layer them with the gold charger on the bottom, then your red plate, and then your white salad plate on top. It's super easy and comes together for only $3 per person!

Drink ware is another great find at Dollar Tree. We purchased these tall glasses there years ago and are what we use for any holiday meal in our home. They're beautifully designed and made, and elevate your space for super cheap! I love how they give the look of real crystal without the hefty pricetag!

I love a good centerpiece, but these can definitely get pricey. The one shown here was originally $50 from Michael's but I only paid $25 after one of their half off coupons! Never go to the craft store without those coupons, it will save you so much money. If you want a fall centerpiece for even less money, check out the DIY I made last year on a budget.

Once everything was said and done, I spent about $60 putting this entire table together five years ago, and I've been able to use it every Thanksgiving since. It's been a great small investment up front that has lasted the test of time throughout the years. I especially love that these products are all annual products that most stores carry, so even though this was originally put together five years ago, you can still create the same look on a budget this year too!

Christmas Gifts for Men 2020

If it often feels hard to purchase Christmas gifts for men, you're not alone. Here is my ultimate list of Christmas gifts for men 2020.

Derek is by far the hardest human to shop for in our home. He always says he doesn't want anything, and then I buy him something and it either doesn't fit right or he maybe secretly wishes I had gotten something else. Last year I felt like I did an amazing job on his Christmas gifts and he loved everything I got, so I'm hoping I can strike gold in 2020 with some of these great Christmas gift ideas.

Christmas Gifts for Men 2020

Ring Doorbell: Since moving into our new house, that is in a safe neighborhood there have been a few incidents where things have happened to our house and our neighbors in the middle of the night. We're the only house in our little stretch without a video camera to be able to see what's going on, and it's something Derek and I have both wanted to get. This one is under $100 on Amazon!

Weight Set: We have a small home gym down in our basement and a weigh set is something we've been wanting to add to it. This is a great price for a large variety of weights and sizes, especially since individual dumbbells are $15+ a piece right now.

Goodr Sunglasses: We are always on the hunt for good sunglasses and I've heard nothing but good things about Goodr from the running community. These are super affordable, and polarized which is great because Derek has very sensitive eyes!

iPhone Charging Station: We're constantly stealing charging cords from each other and moving things all over the house and then can't find what we need when it's actually bedtime. This charging station would be perfect for both Derek's phone and Airpods.

Pressure Washer: We have a lot of stone and stucco at our house that needs to be pressure washed in the spring. I've heard a lot of good things about this Sun Jo washer over the last couple of years, and it's a really affordable price for a machine like this.

Tongue Scraper: I'm willing to admit I want this more than Derek does, but for less than $10 you could totally make it a stocking stuffer. But purchase two, I assume this isn't something you share.

PhoneSoap: I remember seeing these on either Shark Tank or a Kickstarter a few years ago, and 2020 is definitely the year to invest! PhoneSoap is a little box you stick on your counter that uses ultraviolet light to sanitize your phone and kill 99.9% of germs. It's really cool and something we're 100% getting this year.

A tie: Such a classic dad gift, but you can never have too many good ones. There is such thing as too many bad ties, but a good tie is always a great addition.

A DNA Kit: I think that these are really great gifts, but I will be honest that Derek isn't into them. Apparently they aren't that interesting when you grow up knowing who both your parents and all your grandparents are... a novel thing I wouldn't know about ;) I still say they're a great gift idea if your husband isn't so set in their ways about them.

What are you getting for the men in your life this year? I'd love to hear in the comments below!

Christmas Gifts for Women 2020

Sometimes the hardest person to find a Christmas gift for is yourself, or any other woman you might be shopping for. This list of Christmas Gifts for Women 2020 will help kickstart your holiday shopping.

I often feel like finding things I actually want for Christmas is a super difficult task. A couple years ago though I started keeping a running list in my phone of gifts that I'd want or need as I randomly thought about them, that way when my birthday, Christmas, Mother's Day, etc... came along, I'd already have some ideas of things to pass along to Derek. While this is a list of things I want for Christmas this year, hopefully it will spark some ideas for gifts for you, your mother, mother-in-law, sister, friend, etc...

Also, I get that these gifts don't necessarily scream "girly, woman, female, blah, blah..." I realize I'm a strange weird breed. I will have several gift guides linked from past years at the bottom of this post of what was on my wish list in previous years that are probably more typical Christmas gift ideas for women, but this is what is on my list this year.

Christmas Gifts for Women 2020:

Personalized Wood Cutting Board: Lazer Designs offers some really beautiful Bamboo + Poly 2-in-1 cutting boards. You can customize the boards to have any name you want on them, and they make a wonderful gift this holiday season. Lazer Designs also has a wide variety of personalized gifts for her, that can match the specific taste of any woman on your holiday shopping list.

Adidas Slide Sandals: I bought a pair of white Adidas sandals when I went to girl's camp with the youth from church several years ago. I've worn them basically everyday of my life since then and they make me look homeless at this point. It's time to retire them, and maybe go with a black pair that's more forgiving. Wearing socks and these sandals is basically my life regardless of the season.

Dowdle Folk Art Puzzle: My friend Wendy got me into puzzles when we went to Bear Lake together this fall. Dowdle Folk art is a local Utah company, and the Owner is the step dad to a friend of mine from college. He has an Amazon Prime TV show now, Painting The Town, and Derek and I binged watched all the episodes together in September. We're clearly super dedicated to the business now, and I need to get my hands on one of these puzzles. It will be the perfect activity to work on during Christmas vacation. You can get 20% off a puzzle with code "LFSHARE20".

Wet Brush with Heat Flex Bristles: I can't tell you how many combs and brushes I've melted with my hair dryer this year. I personally don't really want to buy one of those hair dryer/brush combo things, but this heat resistant Wet Brush should work perfectly for what I need especially since I don't blow dry my hair too often.

Always Pan: I've seen so many people raving about this pan online, and I wouldn't mind trying it out. The idea is that it's one pan that can do literally everything you'd ever need. Boil pasta, fry an egg, this pan can do it all. Designed for small spaces and minimalist kitchens that maybe can't fit an entire set of pans. I love the idea of downsizing my pan collection, and the non-stick on on this pan happens to be non-toxic unlike other nonstick surfaces.

Suede Clogs: I had a pair of clogs like this in high school that I wore everywhere, and then they got a hole and I never replaced them. These are only $30, look almost exactly like Bikrenstocks for $100 less, and will be a good winter replacement to my sock and Adidas sandal combo.

10lb Dumbbells: Weights are definitely one of those annoying things that cost more than they should. I've been wanting to get a couple dumbbells to use at home though because it would give me more workout options to do at home, and might save me from going to the gym once a week to lift.

Extension Cord: This is super random, but our bed isn't close enough to an outlet to plug something in so we have to use an extension cord. The one we have doesn't hold the plugs in well, and they fall out all the time, or worse, it makes a sparking popping sound when you plug something into it. In the name of not burning our house down, I'll be needing one of these.

Disclaimer as always... I will not be purchasing/getting all of these items for Christmas. These are just ideas of things I would like and use. My reminder for every post that bloggers are real humans with real budgets.

Six-Year-Old-Girl Holiday Gift Guide (Adaptive Fine+Gross Motor Ideas)

Purchasing gifts for a child with a disability can be super challenging depending on their current skills, goals, and preferences. This gift guide should help when purchasing for a child with a disability.

If you have a child with a disability, you know first hand how hard it can be to purchase a Christmas gift for them. As parents we want to buy gifts that are fun and exciting, and that make it feel like Christmas, but on the other hand, you want practical things that have a therapeutic benefit to help them reach their goals as well. It's such a tricky balance to strike.

I also find it super difficult for me to suggest gifts for other parents of special needs children because what my child is currently working on, or likes, could be wildly different from your child's current goals and their preferences. While this gift guide is tailored to what Kinsley likes, loves, and is working on, I hope it sparks an idea for something you can purchase for your loved one too!

6-Year-Old Gift Guide for Girl with Cerebral Palsy

The Critter Club Collection: This is a set of four early chapter books for girls ages 5-9, about girls who work together in their town to make a rescue shelter and save animals. Kinsley LOVES animals and I've been wanting to start reading chapter books with her at night, so I think this is a series she'll love.

Cocomelon Baby JJ Plush Doll: Kinsley loves watching Cocomelon on Netflix, singing with all the songs, and asks to watch JJ practically every day. She will scream with pure delight when she sees this doll. And yes, sometimes we buy Kinsley gifts that might not be super practical, but we know they'll get a huge reaction on Christmas. If you need to see Kinsley's reaction to things she loves... watch this video.

Nickelodeon Slime: Kinsley loves slime, and while most parents don't like it, I'm not that bothered by it. I love these 3lb premade buckets that you can buy during the holidays, and it's only $10!

Melissa and Doug Fishing Game: Kinsley plays with this fishing game often in Physical Therapy, and there are a lot of different ways you can set it up for therapy games. With winter coming and possibly another round of therapy at home if clinics close for illness, I'm thinking of all the ways we can still be productive at home!

Button Art Game: Kinsley has been playing button art games like this in Occupational Therapy the last few months and it's something that is challenging for her, but she also really likes it. She has been using this version with larger pieces, but I think she is ready for something a little harder with smaller pieces like the one shown in the picture above.

Kinetic Sand: This is another great fine motor activity. You can hide small beads or toys in the sand and have your child dig them out, or just make sand castles, there are a lot of possibilities here!

Minnie Mouse Duplos: Kinsley sees Kyle playing with Legos all the time and has picked up on playing with them too. She has her own Frozen Duplo set, but could probably use another set too. She loves Minnie Mouse so I figured this would be a great pick for her! The Duplos are great for her because they're a little easier to build and take apart than the regular legos right now.

Macrame Swing: We had a swing for Kinsley in her bedroom in our last house and we got rid of it when we sold that house and rented last year. We're going to be updating Kinsley's bedroom soon, and this little swing will be the perfect addition for her space! I like that it's functional as a seat, looks cute, but also gives her some fun swinging and sensory input that she craves.

Physical Therapy Equipment: I am honestly planning for PT and OT clinics to close again for some portion of this winter season, so I'm thinking it might be time to invest in some equipment to have at home in case that happens. Some great items that you can incorporate into endless amounts of PT and OT are a gymnastics wedge, a tumbling mat, a bolster, and a peanut ball. We also purchased a cube chair about three years ago, and it's worth every penny. We've used it everyday, several times a day since we bought it!

Also it's not lost on me that all this therapy equipment is expensive, which is why we don't have any in our home except the cube chair right now. We did purchase our cube chair for $15 on Facebook Marketplace which felt like a miracle. Second hand is probably a great place to look for these other pieces too!

As always I like to disclaimer that we're not purchasing Kinsley everything on this list. This is simply inspiration for what we could purchase her, and what you could purchase your own child. We'll likely get her the books, 2-3 toys, the swing, and then maybe one key therapy item to help us through the winter! Just in case anyone needs to remember that bloggers are real people with budgets too!

Christmas Gifts For 8 Year Old Boy 2020

With the holiday season quickly approaching, everyone is looking for the best holiday gifts for 2020. If you need Christmas gifts for an 8 year old boy, you can go wrong with this holiday list.

Does anyone else find it hard to purchase the perfect Christmas gifts for 8 year old boys? Kyle is definitely the hardest one to purchase for on my holiday shopping list. He just loves books and Legos so much that I feel like that's all we ever give him, and finding creative things to spice it up is often really hard. If you need some ideas for Christmas gifts for 8-year-old boys, hopefully some of these ideas will spark a good idea for the little boy in your life.

Christmas Gifts for 8 Year Old Boy:

Basketball Hoop: Kyle has really gotten into basketball this year, and plays at recess with his friends everyday. We've been talking about getting him a hoop for the backyard for a few weeks now, and this one is under $100 from Walmart, if Lifetime brand, and has almost 3000 positive reviews.

Basketball: What good is a basketball hoop without the basketball?

Harry Potter Lego Set: Kyle has read the first three Harry Potter books and has been obsessed with the movies ever since. He is also a huge fan of Legos, so this will be an awesome gift for him this year.

Razor Scooter: Most of the kids in our neighborhood ride scooters to school so we figured it's probably time to invest in one for our home, and maybe get Kyle scooting to school with the other neighborhood kids instead of driving everyday.

Investigators Books: This new series is highly rated on Amazon and was highlighted in their holiday shopping guide. Kyle loves mystery/detective books, so I think these will go over really well with him!

Minecraft Christmas PJs: 2020 is the year we finally got into Minecraft, and while these PJs aren't actually Minecraft brand, they do have the "block" look and are super cute for any little boy at Christmastime.

Encyclopedia Brown: This is a book series Kyle hasn't dived too far into yet and he's always in the market for some new books. This would be a great book set for any 7-10 -year-old!

Mario Kart Hot Wheels Track: This is 100% me projecting my love of Mario onto Kyle's love for Hot Wheels, but how fun is this new track? The price for this at Walmart is $60, compared to $80 at Target, so be sure to shop around to make sure you're getting the best deal.

Minecraft Lego Set: Since this is the year of Minecraft, and Kyle is Lego obsessed, we might as well put two building passions together into one gift right? This set is pretty small and is under $20 and would make a great grandparent or sibling gift.

As a disclaimer, the gifts in this post are purely for inspiration purposes. We are not getting our child every item on this list, although they are all items he would really enjoy. The hope in sharing this is that it gives you some ideas of things you could gift your own child. The reality is that we will likely get Kyle the basketball hoop as his major gift, my mom is gifting the basketball, we get the kids new PJs every Christmas, we'll likely get him books, and then probably one of the toys shown. Just in case people need to be reminded that bloggers on the internet are real humans with real budgets.

Mealtime Magic Mia comes with a two in one accessory that doubles as both a pacifier and a bottle. She also comes with a smart spoon and food tray with 10 different food options. When you put the smart spoon onto the food tray the spoon lights up to match the color of the food. I love that it has a wide variety of foods like strawberries, lemons, peas, and carrots. Maybe feeding healthy foods to a baby doll will convince Kinsley to eat her fruits and veggies too.

Where to Buy Mealtime Magic Mia:

Mealtime Magic Mia is available to purchase this holiday season at Walmart and Target and would make the perfect gift for any child who loves playing with baby dolls. There are two different Mealtime Magic Dolls, Mia who has lighter skin, and Maya who has darker skin. We were sent Mia to review for this post, but I love that they have two options that are inclusive to a variety of families and individuals.

Benefits to Playing with Baby Dolls

Playing with baby dolls has so many benefits for children! Some of these benefits include social skills, imaginative play, responsibility, empathy, compassion, and language skills. It's so fun to see how fast Kinsley switches into mommy mode when she's playing with her Mealtime Magic Mia, and seeing that nurturing side of her come out is the sweetest thing ever.

In keeping with the theme of all things Thanksgiving this week, I'm back with another cute Thanksgiving treat idea. These Teepee dirt cups would be a great activity to make with your children before Thanksgiving where you can teach your kids the true meaning behind Thanksgiving, how the Native Americans lived, and what their lives really looked like. I recommend accompanying this treat with one of the historically accurate books on my Thanksgiving book list.

Teepee Dirt Cups

These teepee dirt cups are a fun activity to share with kids during this late fall season. Kids will love helping to stir the instant pudding together, crushing the cookie crumbs, and dipping the ice cream cones into the sprinkles. It's a super easy, fun, and hands on activity for kids during Thanksgiving.

What You Need to Make Teepee Dirt Cups

To make these teepee dirt cups you will need chocolate chips, orange sprinkles, waffle ice cream cones, instant chocolate pudding, and and Oreo crumbs. You will also need some small see through plastic cups. You could also buy already made pudding in individual snack packs which would save you the step of making pudding and having to purchase additional cups.

How to Make Teepee Dirt Cups

To make these teepee dirt cups you're going to start by melting your chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between each one to make sure your chocolate doesn't burn. Repeat this until your chocolate is melted all the way through and smooth.

When your chocolate is melted you're going to dip the top and bottom of your waffle cone into the melted chocolate, and then into your orange sprinkles. Set your cones aside on some wax paper until the chocolate has set.

While you're waiting for your chocolate to set, put some Oreos in a bag and smash them with a rolling pin to create crumbs, or the "dirt" for these cups! You can also prepare your pudding at this time. my box required that we mix the powder with milk and stir, and then wait five minutes for it to set all the way. It was super fast and easy.

Once your ingredients are prepared you can now layer your pudding cups. Take a clear plastic cup and pour about 1/2 cup of pudding into each of your cups. Then you'll sprinkle in some of your Oreo crumbs for the dirt, and place your waffle cone on top, with the pointed side facing up towards the ceiling.

Activities to Do While Eating Teepee Pudding Cups

If you're wanting to make this a full learning experience about the Native people, you could also incorporate some fun activities to accompany this snack. You could start with reading a historically accurate book about Native people, color some Thanksgiving coloring pages, and even watch a fun Thanksgiving movie!
