Spectacular Snack Times

I've talked a lot in the past about my children's favorite snacks, and the struggle that I've had to get my three-year-old to eat and embrace healthy food... or just food in general. Jay has always been my hard and picky eater (a trait I'm glad his sister hasn't developed). We went through a six week period where getting him to eat something healthy was an all out battle, and I hated having to turn every meal into a fight that I ultimately lost.

I learned though that Jay responds well to bribery. He loves watching TV shows, and I'm not a mom who is totally against letting their kid watch one 20 minute episode of something a day, as long as there is educational value. We made a new rule in our house a few months ago that if Jay wants to watch a show, he has to eat something healthy first. This means that we usually wind up watching a show after snack time each day, or he has his snack in front of the TV while I'm putting Em down for her nap, doing physical therapy with her, feeding her, etc...

We're finally at this amazing point in our lives where we have a wide variety of healthy snacks that I know I can get Jay to eat on any given day and I find that amazing. We have a handful of snacks that we always keep on hand no matter what like, canned green beans (he usually eats about one 14oz can per day), yogurt, string cheese, apple slices, bananas, clementines, and Del Monte Fruit Bursts.

Jay has been eating Del Monte Fruit Bursts since we was a little over a year old, and to this day, they are the only fruit pouch he will consume, ever. Knowing we really love and trust Del Monte made it an easy choice when they asked us if we wanted to try their new Del Monte Fruit and Veggie Fusions. I love these because the fruit is in a fruit and vegetable juice mixture and there is no added high fructose corn syrup. They also have one combined serving of fruits and veggies which makes them a great snack to fuel us through the afternoon.

I also love when super moments happen in our house. This last week a little light bulb went off in Em's head and she realized she was completely ready for table foods. That meant when she saw her older brother eating these Del Monte Fruit and Veggie Fusions, she needed to have one too. Watching her love, enjoy, and have the ability to eat and try new foods has really been amazing because I know it's great food that's going to be able to fuel her body to reach those milestones we're all waiting for.
