If you’re looking for master bathroom inspiration that doesn’t involve a complete renovation, our recent bathroom makeover is proof that a few relatively inexpensive changes can completely transform a space. We spent under $400 updating our master bathroom, and it finally feels calm, warm, and finished without replacing the cabinets, countertops, shower, or any of the major fixtures.
Our bathroom started with very teal walls, and changing the paint color made by far the biggest difference. Because the teal was so intense, we primed the walls first before painting them Dove by Behr Dynasty. The warm neutral immediately made the entire bathroom feel brighter and more peaceful.
From there, I focused on adding a few decorative details that would make the room feel more intentional without spending a ton of money.
Affordable Master Bathroom Inspiration
Instead of filling every empty wall, I wanted to add a few pieces that brought warmth and texture into the bathroom. We used vintage-inspired artwork, woven baskets, and new towels to give the room that slightly elevated, collected look I was going for.
Here is everything we used for our bathroom transformation.
Behr Dynasty Paint in Dove: This warm neutral paint color completely changed the feeling of the bathroom. We primed first to cover the intense teal and then painted the walls Dove for a much softer, calmer look.
I also bought tape, a paint brush, and rollers. All other paint supplies such as a paint pan, the rollers that the heads go onto, and such I already owned.
Wall Primer: With such a dark, saturated color on the walls originally, primer was absolutely worth the extra step. It gave us a fresh base before going in with our new lighter paint color.
Vintage Race Horse Art: I added two pieces of vintage-inspired horse artwork to one wall. They bring some character into the room and make it feel more collected instead of like everything was purchased specifically for a bathroom makeover.
Vintage Polo Art: I loved this little picture of someone playing polo. Once I got it I'm fairly convinced it was made by AI but I decided to overlook that detail and keep it anyways.
Woven Wall Baskets: On the opposite wall, I hung a grouping of flat woven baskets. The natural texture warms up the neutral walls and fills the space without making it feel cluttered.
Laundry Hamper: I placed a simple hamper underneath the woven baskets, which gave that entire wall a purpose while still looking intentional. I love when something practical can also become part of the room’s design.
Oversized Bath Sheets: Switching from standard bath towels to bath sheets might be one of my favorite upgrades. They’re oversized, soft, and feel like such a small quiet luxury addition to an everyday bathroom.
New Hand Towels: We also replaced our hand towels to coordinate with the rest of the bathroom. It’s a small detail, but fresh textiles make the entire space feel more finished.
Master Bathroom Makeover for Under $400
The biggest takeaway from this project is that creating a bathroom you love doesn’t necessarily require ripping everything out.
We kept all of the expensive parts of our bathroom and focused our budget on paint, artwork, texture, and textiles instead. For less than $400, the room went from bright teal and unfinished to a space that feels calm, warm, and much more like us.
