DIY Cake Stand

Like I mentioned in yesterday's post, I have plans of throwing Jay an elaborate second birthday party that he'll no doubt most likely never remember. For anyone who knows me, I'm kind of all about the numbers... so when I started planning everything we were going to need for this party and everything, I almost had a heart attack when all my original planning came to a total of over $100! Don't get me wrong, I love my child, but spending $100 on a party that he won't remember is just kind of well... dumb frankly.

So after that I decided that I wasn't going to skimp on the party or decor, but just figure out how to do it for less money. I made two of these cake stands yesterday, and the total cost was less than $10. The original cake stands that I wanted were $20 each, so I knew that this was going to be the major thing I was going to have to scale back on. Plus we're probably moving across the country at the beginning of next year and I'm sure Derek is going to label cake stands as, "not important enough to be moved", so if I wind up never using these again, $10 is a lot better than $40 to throw away.

This project was super easy. I'm not crafty one little bit and managed to pull it off, and impress Derek all at the same time. So #winning. I got the plates and candlesticks from the dollar store, and the glue from target for $5. This can definitely go under the cheap and easy crafting category.

What You Need:
1 plate
1 candlestick
1 bottle e6000 glue

Directions:

Gather up all your supplies...

Line some glue around the top of the candlestick...

Then put a big glob of glue on the middle of the back of the plate...

Adhere the candlestick to the plate...

Use your husband's textbooks for extra support... and wait a couple hours for the glue to dry...

And then you have one awesome cake stand that you spent next to nothing on!

Stay tuned for other DIY projects for this birthday party! And thanks for reading!
