We took our kids to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad in Grapevine, TX on our trip to Texas and it was a fun adventure that both kids really enjoyed. It's located in the downtown area of Grapevine and is nestled between some old vintage shops. There are there different class fares you can choose from. We opted for first class, which was air conditioned, but there are other options for less money is you're not needing that particular feature.

There are actors aboard the train that reenact a railroad heist and make the trip a little action packed as well. A sheriff comes out and gives a passenger a fake bag of money, a thief comes aboard and tries to get the money from said passenger, the sheriff comes to the rescue and arrests the thief, and it turns into an entire situation. It is pretty fun, but if you have anxious prone kids, give them a heads up that it's fake ahead of time.

Amenities on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad Grapevine, TX:

There is a bathroom on all of the train cars which makes it nice if you're bringing young children. There are three different classes. First class has AC for $12/person, and the other fares and classes go down from there. There is a "professional" photographer on board who will come and take your picture, and then charge you $15 for it afterwards (we declined), and there is a snack cart that comes around with chips and candy for sale as well (we partook).

The History of Grapevine Vintage Railroad Grapevine, TX

The Grapevine Vintage Railroad in Grapevine, Texas, has a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century. Originally known as the Cotton Belt Route, the railroad played a crucial role in the development and growth of Grapevine and the surrounding area.

In 1888, the St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company, also known as the Cotton Belt Route, extended its tracks from Fort Worth to Grapevine. This expansion provided a vital link for transporting goods, including cotton, between Grapevine and other cities in the region. The railroad became an integral part of the local economy, facilitating trade and contributing to the town's prosperity.

Over the years, the Cotton Belt Route witnessed numerous changes and advancements in technology. Steam locomotives were eventually replaced by diesel engines, marking a significant transition in the railroad industry. However, as time passed, the importance of rail transportation declined, and the tracks fell into disuse.

In the 1980s, the City of Grapevine recognized the historical significance of the railroad and sought to preserve its heritage. The city partnered with the Fort Worth and Denver Railway Company to restore the tracks and revitalize the railroad. In 1993, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad was born, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the nostalgia of train travel.

Today, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad operates a variety of excursions, delighting passengers with scenic rides aboard beautifully restored vintage coaches. The historic trains, including the 1896 Steam Engine No. 2248 and the 1953 GP-7 Diesel Locomotive, take passengers on captivating journeys through the picturesque landscapes of North Texas.

The preservation of the Grapevine Vintage Railroad serves as a tribute to the region's railway heritage and provides visitors with a glimpse into the past. It stands as a testament to the importance of rail transportation in shaping the history and development of Grapevine, Texas.
