Last Day of School Ideas for Kids:
When I want to do something special for my kids, I look for ways that I can do something meaningful with minimal amounts of planning, effort, and money. I'm not looking to throw a Pinterest-worthy celebration, but do something small that will create lasting memories. These ideas do just that with very minimal prep on your end.
Ice Cream After School: A gallon of ice cream and a jar of sprinkles is a $5 way to tell your kids you love them and you were thinking of them. They'll love the simple gesture.
Family Water Balloon Fight: I've wanted to do this for several years and have never made it happen, but pegging your kids with water balloons the second they come home sounds thrilling.
Donuts for Breakfast: Grabbing a 1/2 dozen donuts the morning of the last day of school is a simple way to celebrate a fun day without breaking the bank. Sprinkles make everything better.
Make a Summer Bucket List: Get together and make a list of all the things you want to do that summer.
Let Them Stay Up Late: This is not happening in my house but if you're a cool parent, you should do this.
Go Out for Milk Shakes: We love any excuse to get a treat and milkshakes are always delicious.
Take Last Day of School Photo: We do this on the first and last day of school to put the pictures side by side at the end of the year.
Make a Pancake Breakfast: You could make the pancakes in the shape of their grade number, or write their grade number with whipped cream.
Have a Picnic Dinner Outside: We haven't had dinner on our patio this year yet, this would be a fun occasion to kick that off.
Run Through the Sprinklers: Takes 10 seconds of prep and the kids are thrilled, 10/10 idea.
Have a Bonfire and Make S'mores: We have a fire pit in our backyard, and the last day of school would be a great kick off to using that!
Surprise Them with Balloons in Their Bedroom: Decorating their bedrooms is a quick trip to the dollar store and 10 minutes of your time to make a mini celebration the morning of the last day of school.
Make a Welcome to Summer Sign on the Front Door: Again, another quick trip to the Dollar Store will get you all you need for this really cheaply.
Silly String Ambush When They Get Home: Again, something we haven't done in our home, but it does sound fun!
Decorate the Car for Pickup with Window Paint: I haven't done this, but it's so fun that I think this is what we'll do this year. Grabbing this set of window paint from Amazon here.
