4 Tips for Transitioning Back to School with Kids 2025

Summer is over here in Utah and here are six ways that our family is transitioning back-to-school with kids that are going into 6th and 8th grade.

The Transitions that Back-to-School Season Brings:

There are so many ups and downs when it comes to the back-to-school season with kids. They're coming off of weeks of lose bed times, friends over all the time, endless pool days, and really just eight weeks of straight over stimulation. The thing is though, they're heading into even more over stimulation, just in a completely different way.

They're heading back to school with a new routine, new classes, new peers, structure they haven't had, noises and experiences they haven't had all summer, and then trying to manage the chaos in your household through it all can prove to be difficult at best.

For us, we have a daughter with medical complications which means back-to-school is usually back-to-back illnesses for us. This season in our home comes with lots of organization, schedules, prayer, and hand sanitizer.

Combating Cold and Flu Season:

One way I do this is by making sure their immune systems are working in tip top shape with the help of a daily multiviatmin. We have been Gruns fans in our home since they launched a few years ago and there is no going back for us. We throw one of these satchels in their lunchboxes each day and the kids love them. They basically taste like a pack of gummy bears, but they get all the vitamins and nutrients they need to stay as healthy as possible during school.

Staying Organized with A Digital Wall Calendar:

Skylight calendars have been all the rage for the last couple years, and for good reason. They're the perfect way to manage your entire family's schedule in one place, each member of the family can have a different color so you can easily differentiate everyone, and they're very intuitive to use. I especially love their modern and sleek design that can fit well with any home's aesthetic. We're looking at getting the 15in option for our mudroom this year and I think it will be great to manage dr appointments, events, and practices all in one place.

Mudroom Organization with Simple Hall Tree:

We just moved into a new home this summer and our mudroom area does not have a traditional mudroom locker situation that you see in a lot of new homes. I'm not in a position to build built-ins in our home right now, but I'm looking into an easy $100 solution on Amazon that gives us a place to hand coats and backpacks off the ground when the kids walk in from the garage. There are tons of options in this price point, and I thin it will be easy to find one that matches our home's vibe.

New Bento Box with Built-in Thermos:

My daughter brings her lunch to school 75% of the time. My husband is the lunch parent and will alternate between cold lunches or making her something in her thermos. The problem was that on days when she brought her thermos nothing else fit in the lunchbox quite right. We just bought this one on Amazon that has a removable thermos, comes with the bag, utensils, and everything for about $30. We could not be more excited about this find for this school year.

These are all my major tips for back-to-school season. Keep your kids healthy, your home organized, and everyone fed. That is typically the key for success in our household. What are you prepping for before heading into the fall? I'd love to hear in the comments!
