Toddler Friendly Chili Recipe

Derek and I love chili. More importantly, I love making chili. It was probably the first thing that I ever actually cooked, and when I did, it was for my ward's Halloween chili cook-off, and I got second place! Since having a child, I no longer make that recipe because it is super spicy, (I mean, there is 5 tbsp of chili powder in there...), and I prefer to not sizzle my son's tongue to death. I now have made this recipe our family go to one. Jay goes wild for it every time, and it has all the great flavor of chili without all the spice!

1 lb lean ground beef (I use 93% lean)
1/2 cup diced onion
1 14 oz can diced tomatoes
1 14 oz can tomato sauce
2 14 oz cans mild chili beans, do not drain and rinse
1 14 oz can dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 14 oz can of corn, don't drain
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
salt and pepper to taste
Shredded cheese, sour cream, and chips for optional garnish

Brown the meat in a skillet, drain off the fat and then transfer to the crock pot. Add in all the remaining ingredients, stir, and then cook on low for 4 hours or high for 8! Serve, and enjoy!

  5. This looks great. Love the idea of corn mixed in.

  6. Directions unclear...cook on high for 8 hours and low for 4??? Making tomorrow so please respond! Thank you!!!

    1. Sorry other way around. Low for 8 hours and high for 4.

  7. My daughter has hated any chili I’ve tried to make, except this one. It’s 100% a keeper!!! And it’s really good for parents too!

  8. I can’t seem to find chilli beans anywhere- the store says just buy kidney beans but they’re obviously two different kinds of please!

    1. Here is a link to what a can of chili beans would look like! It says chili on there and is just a combination of various beans in a chili sauce which easily adds lots of good flavor to the chili without you having to buy a ton more ingredients!
