Homemade BBQ Sauce

Yesterday was one of those nights where I didn't have a clue what was for dinner until around 5pm. I decided that barbecue chicken pizza would be a great choice, and then found myself without enough BBQ sauce. This problem was solved easily when I found this recipe online after a quick google search and saw that I had all the ingredients ready to go!

However, I'm having a bit of a moral dilemma. The recipe calls for red wine vinegar, and I had some in my cabinet, (although I did not buy it and don't know where it came from), and it's followed us from Provo, UT, all the way to Cary, NC, and the recipe called for it, so I put it in there. But, are Mormons allowed to use red wine vinegar? Did I just lead my family to eternal destruction? I guess Derek and Jay didn't know it was in there, but I did, so I think they're in the clear. Does anyone else cook with red wine vinegar? Or am I just a little rebellious?

Well, if you're feeling rebellious too, here is the recipe for this wonderful BBQ sauce. It was delicious, and quite possibly the best I ever had. Sweet Baby Ray's is a thing in the past for me. Unless of course, using red wine vinegar is a sin, then of course I'll never make this again and pretend it never happened.

  1. I use red wine vinegar (as well as white wine vinegar) all the time. I don't know how I feel about cooking with actual wine or liquor. I don't judge other Mormons if they do, but I personally just don't like having alcohol around the house.

    1. Thanks! It makes me feel better about it! I figured if you didn't need an ID to buy it, it couldn't be too bad!

  2. Red and white wine vinegar don't have any alcohol in them. In fact, they are great substitutes when recipes call for vermouth or other liquor. I'm uncomfortable with using alcohol in recipes, but I use the vinegars all the time!

  4. Yeah the vinegars are fine. My mom said it was okay to even eat food with actual alcohol in them because the alcohol actually cooks out. Not that she EVER cooked with it. I just had friends whose parents did and when I was worried she said I'd be fine because of the fact that it cooks out. So even if it did have alcohol in it I hightly doubt you'd be in trouble because you're not getting drunk off of it.
