Yesterday I shared the fall capsule wardrobe for my daughter, and I thought shopping for her could not get worse. Turns out I had no idea what I was in for when shopping for my son... Maybe I actually just hate shopping?
The problem was that none of the pants in the kid section fit my son... took me an hour of online shopping to realize he was in men's sizes for pants now, which makes me want to cry.
Then the drama of shirts. I've learned jr high and high school boys will find anything to tease you about... for instance, my son wore a Levi brand shirt a few years ago that said "The Original Levi" on there, and then was called The Original Levi for the rest of 7th grade. So every shirt he wears has to leave zero room for him to have his shirt commented on, because he is a kid who wants zero attention.
It makes buying graphic t-shirts hard because he doesn't listen to music, so all band shirts are out. Too many of them are too quirky and will lead to commenting from peers... so we're leaning hard into basics or things that are as inconspicuous as possible.

With all of that in mind, we ended up with six safe shirts for back-to-school (he does have more from last year that still fit as well!). We got three from Nike, two from American Eagle, and one from Pacsun. I tried to go with some solid stripes, a casual plain shirt with a Nike logo, and a few graphic tees that hopefully won't draw too much attention.

Another pickiness of my son is that he does not like baggy jeans. I know they're very on trend right now, but that has never been a huge concern for him. Upon realizing that he fits into men's sizes, I bought a variety of slim fit jeans from American Eagle that felt like they were his vibe, and then he should be able to mix and match the jeans with any of the shirt options pretty easily.
How To Save Money on Back to School Clothes:
I've been using Rakuten for the last several years, and it's my favorite way to stack sales that are already happening at stores with a bigger discount. Simply install the extension on your browser, then when you're checking out at a store, click the Rakuten button, and it will tell you cash back offers and see if there are additional promo codes for you.
If cash back is available, it will be collected in your Rakuten account, and then they pay you out quarterly on Feb 15, May 15, Aug 15, and Nov 15 of each year. Right now I have over $24 waiting for me in my cash back account since using it for school shopping.

Overall, I am very happy to have the shopping for clothes done for both of my kids. I still need to get shoes for each of them, but that is a hurdle for another day. Right now I'm glad the nightmare of clothing is over, and surely shoes can't be nearly as difficult, can they?
