Let's talk about the drama that is buying clothes for your tween girls in 2026. Either everything looks SUPER young, or your girl looks like she is going out to the club, and finding the clothes that hit the middle ground is so so hard. I looked through 20 different stores and honestly hated most of what I was seeing this season.

I finally landed on four stores, 8 tops, and 8 bottoms that can be mixed and matched well into the fall months, where it is still relatively hot here in Utah. If you're frustrated by the pandemonium of back-to-school shopping, It's my hope that some of my picks will fill gaps in your own daughter's closet this year!

Shirts for Tween Girl Junior High Capsule Wardrobes:

I did a mix of oversized graphic tees, which my daughter happens to love, and more put-together pieces for when my daughter wants or needs to dress a little nicer. My favorite place for graphic tees ended up being Zara. They're at a slightly higher price point, but I love the quality, and they had the best prints.

For more put-together pieces, such as the crocheted pieces, those all came from Target, believe it or not! Looking back, all the shirts were from Zara or Target. Shirts were definitely the thing I had the biggest struggle picking out. Finding things that were modest, not too low cut, didn't have a baby-ish print on them, or a print that I felt was overly suggestive of anything was HARD. This is what we landed on, and I'm hoping to not have shirt trauma for a good long time.

Pants for Tween Girls Junior High Capsule Wardrobe:

Pants were easier than shirts by far. The hard part is that my daughter is pretty tall and skinny, making pant shopping harder in that regard. We went for leggings from Zara that have been a go-to for us for years, some pants with a drawstring, and the slim-size pants from The Gap, which are heaven-sent if you also have tall skinny kids. Also grabbed a pair of shorts because it will still be 100 degrees the first month of school.

Overall, I'm glad that it isn't even August yet and I got this done and out of the way. I also cannot wait for it to be fall and winter when big cozy sweaters and hoodies come out, and a lot of the clothing drama goes away until next year... anyone else with me?
