Old Navy Spring Girls Capsule Wardrobe (2024!):
I feel like every single school year around this time I'm scrambling to grab new clothes for the kids, especially my daughter who is particularly hard on her clothes, grows super fast, and needs a few pieces to tie her over until the end of the school year. If you're in the same boat, I just did some shopping and found some great and affordable pieces from Old Navy that will make the perfect spring capsule for my daughter.
How Many Pieces in a Capsule Wardrobe?
When making a capsule wardrobe for one of my kids, I try to have around 12 pieces. I look for pieces that are all within a similar color palette, that have long and short sleeve options for the spring, and where pieces can mix and match easily without me stressing about them getting themselves dressed each morning.
When putting together a capsule wardrobe for kids, I like to work with 4-5 pairs of pants, about 6 shirts, and 2 pairs of shoes, one everyday shoe, and another dressier pair for church.
For this capsule wardrobe for my daughter, I did 4 pants, 5 shirts, 1 sweater, 1 dress, and 2 shoes.

How to Keep Capsule Wardrobe Pieces Looking New for Kids?
It can feel hard to pare down to such a small amount of clothing for kids when they can be so rough on clothing, prone to spills, etc...
One of the things I like to do is stay on top of the laundry regularly and make sure things are getting washed as soon as possible. I also recently purchased this stain remover that is a total miracle worker on clothes. The stains are gone right before my eyes which makes working with a smaller amount of clothing much less stressful.
We also wash all our clothes in cold water only. I separate my laundry into four loads: darks, lights, whites, and towels. I don't use fabric softener, and we use a clear, chemical-free laundry detergent that is very gentle on our clothes.
We also use the normal heat setting on the dryer and make sure that the clothes aren't getting overdried. I've never bought a dryer sheet in my life. We try to be as gentle and chill with our laundry habits as possible.
